Horticulture Program
At IAW, we empower students through innovation and leadership. Our students will learn solutions to conserve, preserve, and restore our environment through hands-on learning that solves real-world problems.
Integrated Real-World Learning: Students participate in daily interdisciplinary rotations where ELA and Math standards are applied through hands-on horticulture, such as measuring plant yields, documenting growth in journals, and researching soil quality.
House-Driven Environmental Agenda: Our school culture is rooted in a House system that fosters a sense of belonging and collective responsibility, empowering students to work together across grade levels to "conserve, preserve, and restore" our environment.
Student-Led Entrepreneurship: As the program matures, students will take the lead in a business model that mimics a farmer's market, where they are responsible for marketing their garden, tracking budgets, and managing the distribution of harvests to the local community.
Community-Centered Innovation: The curriculum is built on "growing solutions" for the environment, featuring active community partnerships and students and staff who are invested in the growth of the school.
Advanced Systems & Infrastructure: Beyond basic planting, students will design and manage complex systems, including the future construction of an on-site greenhouse and the installation of raised garden beds to learn the fundamentals of system design, water conservation, and more.
